Diamond Point isnt too far, it%26#39;s nice, not as busy as Lake George. As far as if you should stay on Lake George or not its really a personal preference... we stay on a quieter lake, near lake george and we love it... but if you want to be in the action stay on the ';strip'; (Lake George Village) at some place like Surfside or the Fort William Henry so you can walk around, parking in the village is very expensive and very limited at night. It gets very crowded (the streets and the sidewalks). If your daughter isnt too young I%26#39;d go to the Great Escape. Its got a great water park with a tide pool, slides and a lazy river. It also has kiddie rides. On the way into lake george coming down Canada St. you%26#39;ll see a waterslide park on your right. Thats also pretty fun. If I were you I%26#39;d make reservations, it seems to get more and more crowded every year, though you may be able to find something thats farther from the actual village. Things to check out... I%26#39;d say the rafting is fun... there are a bunch of places that have family safe rafting trips, the rodeo is kinda neat up route 9, there is also fireworks in the village every thursday night. Hope this helped have fun!

Stay at the Sagamore.
Avoid Lake George Village.
Go hiking and White Water Rafting.
Avoid Lake George Village.
Rent a boat and eat lunch on one of the islands.
Go to the Great Escape Amusement Park for an afternoon diversion.
Avoid Lake George Village.
And go for dinner at the Club Room.
(These are all snooty recommendations, but they will gaurantee a good time with as little ticky-tacky experience as possible.)
PS. If you like ticky-tacky, try Lake George Village.
The Sagamore is very expensive. Stay away from the village. The Wakita and Tall Pines motels are really good. I like the Glenmoore Lodge too. You are on a lake, but not Lake George. Big deal, it is much quieter and you do not have the village noise. Good place to eat- The Log Jam for steaks. They also have a salad bar. Go to the Great Escape-they have rides and water slides. Have a great time!
A great website to try is www.lakegeorge.com. It has alot of information regarding lake george and all types of accomodations. We are going again this September during the Adirondack Nationals, we always have a good time. Lake George is really touristy but alot of fun. Plenty to see and do for your daughter. My boys are looking forward to Adventure Racing. You are going during peak time so you will definately need to book ahead of time. Good luck and have fun!
By the way, we stay at the Capri in Diamond Point. It%26#39;s a nice place with housekeeping cottages right on Lake George and very reasonable.
Just got back fro mLake George. We go every year. Had a blast!
Diamond point is where we stayed this year. It%26#39;s a matter of preference. Last year we stayed at Marine Village, right in town. It is a hotel so we had to go out toeat every night. That gets tiresome and expensive. You have to round every one up and shower to go to dinner and then wait in line every where. When you stay at a cabin you can bbq right at your cabin and then take a ride after dinner. This year we stayed in a cabin as we did other years, and we really liked it. There is more room in cabins and you save a fortune by cooking breakfast lunch and dinner yourself. Go to Great Escape, its really nice and clean and fun!! Check out the minne haha or one of the sister ships for a nice ride and view of lake george. You%26#39;ll also learn some interesting facts about the lake and people that live there. Go to the drive in movie in glens falls. Called Glen Drive in.
We do that every year. They open at 7:30 and movies start at about 9 or so. Take a walk through town, and get some ice cream. Go to the village park and see a band play. Go out to dinner to the Log Jam, its a really nice rustic log cabin with good food and a great salald bar. Or take a ride up to Bolton Landing and eat at one of the quaint restaurants there. Or just spend a few days at the beach. We stayed directly on the lake. I have stayed off of the lake with a pool but its much more fun staying on the lake and easier when you have kids. You can go to the town beach but i have three little kids and didnt feel like dragging every thing with me so i paid more to stay on the lake and i am happy i did.
Any other questions feel free to email me direct.
Its Da5ofuz at aol dot com.
Good luck and have fun!!

Trout Lake Club! This place is great. It is a little more rustic but a great place for the family. It is about a 10 minute drive from Lake George but alot more private from what you find in the Lake George area. What a awesome place. My family loved it.
I just returned from Lake George.. YES.. it is amazingly better to stay right on the lake.. it is magical. Also, I would recommend being as far from the village as possible.. diamond point is further, but worth the drive. I stayed in Bolton Landing, and it was beautiful right on the water.
there were some vacancies around... you might find some.
We just stayed at the Georgian Resort. It was a little expensive but heavenly to sit at the pool, on the lake and sip an apple tini. We liked that we could walk to the village. Midweek the village is not crowded. We had no luck with restaurants, however, the worst being Christie%26#39;s. They had a seafood tower on the menu with oysters, crab, steamers, ';2 ounces of chunk lobster meat'; and drawn butter. Sounds good? for $21? YUCK. I thought the lobster was missing and when I inquired they pointed to something that looked like spam with celery and mayo blobbed on the plate and told me that there is lobster in there. It sure didn%26#39;t taste like it. The crab claws were frozen and tasteless. The corn on the cob was frozen and tasteless.
After 3 days of lousy restaurants, we decided to get a hot dog and fudge.
I think it is much better and not always super expensive to stay on Lake Geroge. We liked Bolton Landing and Diamond Point area (just returned from 4 days there) much more than Lake George village.
