travel from Islip to Manhattan

Hello!

Need advice about the best way to reach the City from Islip. Family of five arriving after 7pm, going to the Benjamin Hotel.

Thanks!!

I take it you are flying into the Islip Airport. Take a taxi to the Central Islip train station and take the LIRR from there to Penn Station. You could buy tickets ahead of time via the web. You can check the schedule, fares, and buy tickets here (enter Central Islip and Penn Station)

From Penn Station, I think just grab two taxis. Pretty short ride and you will have been travelling quite a bit for me to make you undertake a complicated subway itinerary.

Dang, that might be a bit of a schlep.

The MacArthur Islip Airport webpage has a bunch of different suggested options. Even has maps, phone numbers, schedules, estimated prices, etc. Looks like the Hampton Jitney could be a good bet because it will drop you off pretty near your hotel.

The Hampton Jitney is a motorcoach (large bus) that is famous for taking city dwellers to their beach houses in the Hamptons on Long Island. It gets most of its business in the summer from folks who leave Manhattan early on Friday afternoons. Check the schedule here:

Thanks so much for your help!!

Hi Liz. I think the Hampton Jitney option is probably not cost efficient for your family of 5. It%26#39;s pricey and for 5 you could get a limousine into the city for what the Jitney would probably cost. So basically your options are the Long Island Railroad from Ronkonkoma (get an airport shuttle or taxi to the train station) or a car service. A number of car/limo services are here

Thanks for the advice on the limo. We just got home from our wknd trip, and the limo ride was the way to go! The kids certainly enjoyed it, and it made everything so much easier. The price was not much more than the jitney, and none of the hassle.

Great trip, great weather, great tennis, and also a great hotel for a family.

gotta love NYC.
