Upper West Side / Central Park West

My wife and I are currently looking at the Astor on the Park hotel at 465 Central Park West. Can anyone tell me what the area is like as we seem to be off the beaten track somewhat. What would be the nrearest subway ?

Thanks all

I%26#39;ve noticed this hotel coming up on some hotel websites and don%26#39;t know much about it other than it is pretty far north and I would call it off the beaten track though others might disagree. It%26#39;s at 106th st %26amp; Central Park West. The Museum of Natural History which many websites mention as nearby is at 81 st. ---not all that close. The nearest subway would be on 103 st. Here%26#39;s the subway map

I found some reviews on another website that I would believe. They say the rooms are very small, the walls thin, and the whole thing reminiscent of a college dorm room. I wouldn%26#39;t stay here but that%26#39;s me. Here are the reviews

The Newton Hotel is about 10 blocks south and doesn%26#39;t get bad reviews.

As NYWhiz mentioned:

The Newton Hotel is on the Upper West side on Broadway and 95th Street. It gets good reviews, especially for value. It is in a safe residential neighborhood with close by shops and good moderately priced restaurants. It is one block from the subway which can get you to midtown in 10 minutes and most anywhere in Manhattan in 30 minutes.

I like the upper west side, but prefer the 70s to the 90s and above. Take a look at the Beacon, Belleclaire, Milburn, On the Ave, Lucerne, Excelsior, Comfort Inn Central Park. Or take a look at Jack %26amp; Judy%26#39;s B%26amp;B, that Daisiegee swears by. www.jacksbandb.com
