Waldorf Astoria

We are thinking of staying in the Waldorf Astoria for our 25th wedding anniversary just before Christmas. Does anyone know if the basic standard rooms are OK or would we be better upgrading? Many thanks

The Waldorf is not what it once was, although I have heard some of the rooms have been redone. What%26#39;s your budget and when are you coming? We might suggest something a bit nicer.

I stayed in a basic room a couple of years ago, and it wasn%26#39;t what I expected, but it has been going through a period of upgrading. The whole floor seemed a bit ';run down';...clean but worn. It might be worth mentioning that it%26#39;s your anniversary...you never know

If you are looking for an elegant hotel with old school architecture you might do better at the Carlyle, Sofitel, Algonquin or Mark. All have lovely rooms and great atmosphere. The Waldorf is a nice place for a drink and lobby walk-through, but the rooms are in need of an upgrade.

We stayed at the Waldorf for our 10th anniversary 3 years ago. We told them it was a special occasion and they upgraded us to the ';Waldorf Towers'; attached The room was nice enough, spacious, with a Bose (sp?) radio, silver (plated?) tea service, but a little dowdy and worn. We were sure that they were messing with us by calling it an upgrade -- after all, this was the world famous Waldorf. The next morning I insisted they put us back in the main Waldorf hotel building. They did and what a let down! The room was way past prime, the door lock only worked sometimes, the drapes were torn, no radio, no coffee pot (never mind tea service), etc. I was very, very disappointed. I%26#39;d suggest you go somewhere else. But if you do choose the Waldorf, the Towers is an upgrade and take it if offered!
