Hi all

Does anyone know if a good tattoo parlour in NYC?

And what is the fashion out there this autumn/winter? I want to bring some clothes back and know it%26#39;ll be about a year ahead of the UK!

Any website links would be fabeedandoo!

NYC has many many good tattoo artists - and some very bad ones as well...

Personally,

I would highly recommend Denise de la Cerda:

and

Emma Porcupine

My friend got a really nice upper sleeve recently from Troy Denning, who has a very good reputation:

I%26#39;d also look at:

Regino at:

http://www.inkstoptattoonyc.com/ - nice guy, seen good stuff from him.

For major work, one of the TOP artists in the city is Anil Gupta:

For very distinctive horror-type images Paul Booth%26#39;s Last Rites studio is highly acclaimed:

(like Anil, he%26#39;s a top-ranked artist, and appointments may not be easy to come by)

You may also want to look at the page for the annual convention here:

Remember, a good artist will want to talk to you about your original design, will make individual sketches for you, and will not be impatient with making changes to get your design EXACTLY the way YOU want it.

This usually means at least two appointments, one to discuss the concept, and one to come back, approve the sketch, and get started on the work. Major work will often be done in 2 or 3-hour segments over several appointments.

Any reputable artist will encourage you to look at a portfolio of THEIR work (not random flash, although flash may be availbale or just used as decoration in the store) before deciding to hire them. Remember, different artists may be equally good, but have different artistic styles...

When thinking about your design, remember that bold, simple designs last better over time... intricate, tiny details WILL blur over time, and you will need a touch-up or cover-up in about 10-15 years.

Enjoy!

For Tattoos, Most of my friends used to go to East Side Ink. 155 East Second Street, Ave. A and B, Manhattan 212-388-0693. When I used to live in that neighborhood they had a reputation for being one of the best.

You can also try this guy http://www.inklinestudio.com/ I used to live in this apt building when I was in college. If you feel more comfortable having it done in an apt, rather than a public studio. He%26#39;s a reputable tattoo artist.

There are several in the village on lower 6th ave, and quite a few on St Marks Place as well. Not 100% sure I would recommend those, but I do know people who had work done there and were fine.

You would also find some good fashion forward shopping in the East Village and the neighboring NoLita district. (NoLita = North of Little Italy)

Oh weird...Anil Gulpta is the inkline studio guy I mentioned above. (also in E. Village%26#39;s post) He was my downstairs neighbor for several years. Go to him.

Thanks both, I shall check those websites out :o)

For styles you can have a look at dailycandy.com, http://nymetro.com/shopping/fashion/index.htm

websites for Vogue, Elle etc.

I wouldn%26#39;t bet on being a year ahead diva. With the internet etc., I now find the fashions much the same NYC to London. ;) You%26#39;ll just be able to afford more here with the exchange rate. :))

Thanks NYCWhiz, I shall check it out!
