International Shoppers Savings Card

What is this, where do you get it and what are the savings and where can you use it? Thanks

International Shoppers Savings Card

Martin, it%26#39;s a Macy%26#39;s card which entitles you to 11% discount of a lot (not all) of their wares. You get it from their Customer Services dept which is on the mezzanine floor (don%26#39;t forget to take your passport with you).

Other department stores (Bloomingdales) have similar schemes.

Thanks Nic. Is Macys very like Bloomingdales - is one better than the other?

Macy%26#39;s is the largest department store in the world. That said; Bloomingdales%26#39; merchandise is neater (literally) ans the sales staff are a bit more knowledgeable and courteous. Bloomingdale%26#39;s is a bit more upscale. Interestingly, they are both owned by the same company.

Both Macy%26#39;s and Bloomingdale%26#39;s are fun to visit. Both have good sales. But don%26#39;t bet your rent money on the savings card. There are many exclusions. If the card you are talking about costs money, skip it.

Can the card be used on cosmetics ,skincare ?

It doesn%26#39;t cost money but it does, as I hinted before, have exclusions. It doesn%26#39;t include (and I quote from the actual card) ';cosmetics, fragrances, leased departments, services, gift certificates, gift cards, prior purchases, furniture, mattresses.';

Nic,

What%26#39;s left then? Clothes, handbags and shoes?

It hardley sounds worth the effort or is there a point? By the way can%26#39;t you claim any tax you pay back whilst in the States when you depart at the airport? How easy is this?

I suppose it depends what you%26#39;re looking for but I would have thought clothes was what most people want to buy plus gifts or things for the home. Can%26#39;t imagine that too many people will be disappointed that mattresses are excluded! There is no catch but if people want to pay an extra 11%, who am I to stop them?

Whilst you can reclaim GST (Goods and Services Tax) for items bought in Canada, the same does not apply to the USA.
