I am arriving into Newark on Oct 5th. i still haven%26#39;t decided to get the train to Penn Station, then a cab to my hotel on W45th.
Any ideas on time taken? Is it quicker to go by cab?
Also, I will be leaving on Friday afternoon to pick up a car @ Newark and then drive to Albany for a wedding. How bad will traffic be, considering it is a holiday weekend?
Holiday Traffic
If there is a lot of traffic at the Lincoln Tunnel, it won%26#39;t be any faster by cab
Personally I%26#39;d take the CoachUSA Olympia bus to Port Authority

Also, are you aware there%26#39;s an Amtrak train that goes to Albany?
Thanks for the info.
I had thought of getting the train from Penn to Albany. I will be dropping the car off at Newark before my flight home on the 15th Oct. There will be three travelling so the costs of getting the train vs the extra day or so with the car (gotta figure a different pickup/dropoff charge also!).
Many thanks for the tip regarding the coach to Port Authority. Since we are only in the city for a short time the quickest way to travel might be best.
You mentioned ';I'; so I the bus makes the most sense.
If it is three of you, the taxi would be $45 + $6 toll + tip
and probably worth the money

Thanks,
It is two on the way in to NYC (Wed 5th Oct) and three on the way out (Fri 7th Oct)
The taxi would certainly take the hassle factor out of it!!
Once again thanks for the quick response :-)
Oct. 5th is a Jewish holiday and traffic will be a bit lighter than usual. The bus to Port Authority (42 st %26amp; 8th ave.) will cost $30 for 2, still half what a taxi will cost after toll and tip. No changing trains etc. I%26#39;d do that or a taxi if you want door to door service.
Traffic will be bad heading north on that Friday. It is THE big weekend for people to go looking at the changing leaves. I would try to leave the city as early as possible. You could also take the train part of the way and then pick up a car. Hertz has a promo with Metro North. Info here

Thanks Whiz,
I%26#39;m now convinced to take the train to Albany. I%26#39;ll post a few messages on the ALbany forum to get ideas on Cab fares to my Wifes aunts house - or hire a car.
