29/12/05 to 4/1/06 - Just NY or NY & ???

2 lads from UK travelling to NY for these dates.

Thinking about splitting the trip into 2 and going somewhere for a few days.

Maybe NYC for 3 days and Boston or Toronto for a few days......or maybe a change of hotel in different area (ie - Times Sq area for 3 nts and maybe Suites on Hudson for 3 nts)

Any suggestions?

29/12/05 to 4/1/06 - Just NY or NY %26amp; ???

Considering the following;

Times Square Hotel 29/12, 30/12 %26amp; 31/12

Embassy Suites Hotel New York City 1/1, 2/1, 3/1

Want to be near Times SQ area for New Year party so we can walk (stagger) home.

There are so many things to do and places to go in NYC that you could spend the entire time in there. Also going to Boston or Toronto will waste a day travelling. You do not need to change hotel in NYC. If you get a hotel in Manhattan, it is easy to get to any neighborhood by subway or walking.

I also agree, with such a short trip, you should just stay in NY. if you want to spend 4-5 hours in travel, there are cheap buses to both Boston and Washington DC. The FungWah is RT $25 (I think) to Boston, and I believe Peter Pan will take you to DC for less than $40 RT. I would definitely not do Canada unless you do Montreal to party, but that is a time and money investment.

I agree. Really, you%26#39;ll be in NYC for six days. Is that too much time to see ';the greatest city in the universe';?

Trust us, you won%26#39;t be bored. You%26#39;ll wish you had more time here.

Read the trip report by vikingtim to see all the things you can do here.

I%26#39;ve been to NYC several times over the last few years and still have not seen all I want to see or be part of. Would recommend a hotel on the Upper West Side (don%26#39;t waste time moving) and using buses, subway and walking as your main transport. If you like it come back with more time and plan for visits to other sites. My first visit I sayed for a week and then headed off to Montreal. Loved both, but somehow felt I had not spent enough time in NYC. So I went back to NYC for 2 weeks 6 months later. Still not enough. Last Christmas for 2 weeks, another 2 weeks coming up soon. No disrespect to Boston, but a day there is plenty for me.

OK OK I%26#39;ll stay in NY for the 6 nights!!!

I like the style of the Suites I mention above, but is it too far from where all the shopping/attractions are?

I want to be able to stagger home on New Years eve/day from the Times SQ area.......

I would love a room with a harbour view etc, but also want to be near the centre of where its all at!

You will be shocked at the prices to stay in or near Times Square on NYE. But it will allow you access in and out of the area. You might want to read here
