I was thinking of taking my 16 yo son to a comedy club one night when we visit in December. I have found HA and Caroline%26#39;s. Any suggestions as to which is better, funnier, more popular, draws a younger crowd? Is it even cool to go to a comedy club in the city being that there are other clubs and the theatre to go to?
We only have 3 nights there and will go to a show the other nights. Thanks.
Good Comedy Clubs?
I don%26#39;t know anything about comedy clubs, however I have just returned from New York and stayed on Broadway /75th street, just along from the hotel was a comedy club and the night we passed it there was a huge queue of people waiting to get in.
No doubt a local expert will know more.

Caroline%26#39;s usually gets some top names, so if you%26#39;re going there, you might want to check in advance to see who%26#39;s playing. You don%26#39;t want to plan on going there and then find out you can%26#39;t get in because it%26#39;s a sold out show. It%26#39;s a nice club with a good staff. I was recently there for my BF%26#39;s bday and we decided to eat dinner there beforehand, so that we%26#39;d get ';VIP'; seating (meaning, we%26#39;d definitely get a seat, and wouldn%26#39;t have to rush in when everyone gets called). The food was surprisingly good and we got a nice little table to ourselves with a couch instead of hard chairs, so it was worth it.
I%26#39;d also recommend Gotham Comedy Club, as it%26#39;s a nice club and they have consistently good comedians. It tends to draw a crowd in their 20s and 30s and since they often have theme shows (such as all Irish or all Latino comedians, stuff like that), they seem to attract more locals than out of towners.
I%26#39;ve never been to Ha but I believe it%26#39;s relatively new.
It%26#39;s hard to say which place will be funnier, but it depends on whether you want to see one main comedian with an opening act (Caroline%26#39;s) or a few comedians in one night (Gotham and others). The only place I%26#39;d say to stay far away from is the New York Comedy Club. It%26#39;s a disgusting place and they don%26#39;t treat the comedians very well.
You can check the Comedy section of Time Out New York the week you%26#39;re here and see if there%26#39;s something that interests you.
