Restaurant to take a 14 year old to celebrate her birthday

My husband and I are bringing our niece to NYC in October to celebrate her 14th birthday. I have been making furious notes from all the info I have found in the forum of recommended attractions to visit. What I need is a restaruant recommendation to celebrate said birthday that is pretty and not too overwhelming where she would feel out of place - don%26#39;t want to do the Martins, Hard Rock Cafe stuff. And want some funds left over to enjoy NY!!!

What kind of food would she enjoy?

How about Two Boots?

Ellen%26#39;s Stardust Diner is a blast for a 14 year old, and I insure you they will make it very special for her. It%26#39;s in Time Square.

I took a group of girls who were 17 to Jekyll %26amp; Hydes Club 1409 Sixth Ave between W57th and W 58th St and we had a blast. The food was good and reasonable and the atmosphere was memorable.

We liked Ellen%26#39;s Stardust as well. I%26#39;m sure they would be happy to sing Happy Birthday. Best food we had in NYC was at Serendipity 3 (225 E 60th St between 2nd and 3rd Ave), they are known for their frozen hot chocolate (which is amazing), but the food is reasonable and very good.

I have been to Ellen%26#39;s and Serendipity and will take her there regardless- two Boots looked fun but I want something a little more upscale in atmospehere - she likes chicken fingers, grilled salmon and steamed oysters! Something that just tells her she is eating in a NYC restaurant!

If she%26#39;s looking for ';scene-ster';/hip New York ambiance, there%26#39;s always the trendy Sushi Samba, Asia de Cuba, Koi, Tao, Bluewater Grill (great seafood in Union Square), Dylan Prime (excellent steaks/drinks/desserts off-the-beaten path in Tribeca).

Rosa Mexicana is cool b/c they make your guacamole fresh at the table. Brazil Grille on 8th %26amp; 48th is awesome on the weekends b/c they play live music and their caipirinhas are frozen (for the adults, such a treat!!).

Churrascaria Plataforma is cool b/c it%26#39;s an all-you-can-eat restaurant with lively atmosphere where the waiters walk around with giant skewers and cut slices onto your plate.

You should also make sure to take her to Pastis in the meatpacking district for brunch or lunch; you may see a celeb or two there. I once saw Hugh Grant, another time Maya Rudolph of Sat Nite Live. My boss saw Gisele and Leonardo leaving from there one morning last week.

A great place for a birthday dessert would be Cafe Mozart on the upper west side, where they put a mozart wig on your head, play a funny orchestral birthday song, and take a picture of you in the wig when they serve you dessert (all of which are excellent, btw).

Have a blast here in NYC!

oh, almost forgot to mention, if you guys happen to be in the village, Peanut Butter %26amp; Co on Sullivan is really cute and they serve all the possible permutations of PB sandwiches you could ever want, plus they sell their yummy confections in a jar to take home with you!

If she likes oysters, how about the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station? (BTW, I%26#39;ve never heard of steamed oysters. Raw, broiled, smoked, Rockefeller etc. but not steamed). Right outside is the whispering corner.

Another idea is the famous PJ Clarke%26#39;s. I was taken by my Godmother for my 16th and still remember it. It%26#39;s a famous saloon. They have lots of oysters (mostly raw I think) and other seafood including salmon. Great burgers and other good but simple stuff too.

Balthazar is a very popular French brasserie in Soho that gets lots of celebs. That%26#39;s another option.
