I went to Osaka spa on Labour Day for a japanese bodyscrub and shitasu. The price on the spa menu was $175 and a recommended gratuity stated as 20%.
The service was dire - there was a strange old man who entered the steam room (for my individual use ) fully clothed and attempted to chat with me. I fled.
In addition the female therapist was replaced by a man (without my consent ) during the massage. His hands were so calloused I jumped off the table when i felt his touch.
My credit card was charged $210 dollars which allegedly included a 20% service fee. When i challenged the fee a notice was pulled out from under the desk stating that no tipping was accepted. Obviously, I raised merry hell beause there was no mention of a mandatory service fee when i arrived nor a sign openly displayed. I insisted on a refund (no change available) I asked to speak to the manager (had left for the evening). I then said that i was going to call the police and pulled out my mobile phone. I was immediately refunded $35 and told to enjoy the rest of my evening!!!!
