I am traveling from Philadelphia to NYC at the end of September and plan to drive from Philadelphia to the NYC area. But, I don%26#39;t actually want to drive into NYC, but instead park my rental car on the outskirts of the city and catch a subway to get around. Any suggestions as to the best place to park and catch the subways???
Thanks!

You don%26#39;t have to drive from Philadelphia to NYC.
I would not bother to rent a car.
Take SEPTA (septa.org) from Philadelphia to Trenton and change over to NJ Transit (njtransit.com).
If you have a little bit more cash, take Amtrak.
There%26#39;s always Greyhound.

Yeah, the Amtrak journey from Philly to New York is very pleasant. Can%26#39;t remember exactly how long it took me the last time. About two hours ?
I agree it%26#39;s not necessary to drive from Philly. In addition to the 2 train options, there%26#39;s also ';chinatown'; buses that cost next to nothing. Here%26#39;s just one of many websites with info

If, however, you need the car to continue on from NYC, there are a number of options for parking. There%26#39;s a ferry from Weehawken, NJ. YOu can park in the ferry lot and use the ferry to get across ($5 each way). Not sure what the parking fee is.
The subway you talk about would be the PATH train. Not sure what the parking is near the PATH. Jersey City would be the place to get it. Your other option would be to park in the long term lot at Newark airport and take train or bus from the airport but that%26#39;s not so cheap or particularly close.
Finding parking during a weekday can be challenging due to the commuters not to mention expensive. With many of the lots, you%26#39;ll need a parking sticker and daily parking is limited.
If you must have a car, I%26#39;d suggest parking at Metropark. It has a big parking garage so you won%26#39;t have trouble finding a parking space. during the weekday just go up to the top floors. At this garage you weekend parking is NOT free. It is off exit 131A of the Garden State Parkway. GSP is Exit 11 of NJ Turnpike. Train tickets are about $15 RT off-peak hours; more if you travel during peak hours.
There are also parking garages in Hoboken.
