Dachshund day is an event that happens twice a year in NYC under the arches at Washington Square Park in the Village.
It is a free and a great photo op (that is, of course if you%26#39;d like to have photo%26#39;s of hundreds of weiner dogs) and a quirky, NY ';non-event'; event.
What happens is people bring thier long little doggies to the park around noon. Some people dress them up in little costumes. Costumed or not, we all admire them for an hour or so, we sing the ';Dachsong'; (check out dachsong on the web) our theme song, we parade around the fountain, and we go home!!
If you%26#39;re in the city on Saturday Oct 1st check out this event.
The Dachshund Friendship club is the official organizer. They have a website too.
Dachshund Day
I%26#39;ve just googled the song and am giggling like mad here! I%26#39;d love to see pictures of this parade...
Dachshund Day
I%26#39;ve got to see this!
I arrive in NYC on the 1st of Oct so may just have check this out!
I hope you do! It starts at 12 noon and is finished by 1:30pm or 2:00 pm at the latest.
It%26#39;s not a BIG event but it is fun. I%26#39;ll try to find some pictures of the Dachshund Spring Fiesta and I%26#39;ll post the site later.
I only wish there were more dog-friendly restaurants that I could take my little wiener into after. I have one favorite one but I have to keep it%26#39;s location secret because posting it on the internet would put an end to it%26#39;s dog friendly-ness.
Unfortunately, if you want to find dog friendly restaurants you have to go to France or Italy.
Maybe you could take a picnic Doxi-mom?

I agree with you that dog friendly restaurants are mostly in Europe! I love that. Next time I go to Europe my doggie will be at my side. There is a good book out ';Ella in Europe'; about an American dog%26#39;s European Vacation.
My grandmother told me that whenever my grandfather would offer to walk the dog in the1920%26#39;s, 1930%26#39;s 1940%26#39;s it was a good bet that he and the dog were going to a local watering hole.
In the olden days in NYC dogs were allowed. Grandma found out where Pop was when she walked the dog one time and the dog led her right to the bar %26lt;G%26gt; I don%26#39;t know if that was during prohabition or not but pups were not prohibited.
Well, as long as we are posting pictures of dogs, here%26#39;s one:
