Just watching storytellers on vh1 and interested to see what new yorkers/visitors felt about this great english band at MSG last week
Coldplay
The buzz is that before the MSG gig Chris Martin was devastated by the poor reviews Coldplay%26#39;s latest album %26#39;X%26amp;Y%26#39; received in America. The band faced a barrage of criticism from respected publications like Rolling Stone and Spin - but the most cutting remarks came from The New York Times. The reviewer described the British rockers as ';the most insufferable band of the decade. His voice is the sound between a yodel and a hiccup';.
The Village Voice generally liked them at MSG despite Martin%26#39;s ';self-effacing comments'; ...';The only really bad obnoxious of the show came during Martin%26#39;s false-humility stage-patter bits. It was bad enough when he said self-effacing trash about only having two hits (a blatant lie), but he insufferably thanked the crowd for paying attention to the band even though they didn%26#39;t have any dancers or explosions, even though ';we have to rely on our hands and feet.'; I don%26#39;t know if this was a cheap crowd-pandering move or if Martin really thinks his music is more genuine than Mariah Carey%26#39;s or Nelly%26#39;s or whoever%26#39;s just because he knows how to play guitar.';
Personally I think they sound like the Beatles.
Coldplay
interesting...build em up and knock em down eh,and I thought it was just us brits that did that..X%26amp;Y is genius,the best songwriting since Lennon and Mccartney
themoney some people just don%26#39;t ';get'; Chris Martin or Coldplay - I personally think they%26#39;re brilliant and can%26#39;t wait til they come to Australia next year! I saw them on one of our chat shows the other day and Chris Martin was one of the most down to earth unpretentious musicians I have ever seen interviewed. I am just disappointed that I will have missed them by a mere couple of months at MSG grrrrrrrrrr.
I love Coldplay and will be seeing them in FL on Wednesday before leaving for NYC on Thursday. I would have loved to see them at MSG.
