Beacon or Newton ?

Please help , this is our third trip in three years we love the place so much.Having stayed on 57th and 48th and having done the major sights we really fancy staying on the upper west side.We all love to eat and drink and it sounds like there are a lot of good places in that area.We are a party of 4 adults and two teenagers 16 %26amp; 14.Having looked at both hotels we can%26#39;t decide. We arrive on 20th Feb and leave on the 26th.We ould be so greatful for your comments.Thanks.

Beacon or Newton ?

I%26#39;d go with the Beacon. While I%26#39;ve never seen the rooms at either hotel, you can%26#39;t beat the location of the Beacon. The heart of the best shopping area on the UWS. Wonderful restaurants all around you, and right across the street from Fairway and Citarella. A couple of blocks from the 72nd St. express station (not to mention Gray%26#39;s Papaya!). No contest.

Beacon or Newton ?

No question the Beacon. It%26#39;s a bit more central, I think a nicer hotel in general, and they have suite rooms that are like apartments with kitchens etc. which will work better for a larger family. I%26#39;d also consider the Milburne in the same general area and the same sort of hotel. I assume you%26#39;ll be taking at least 2 suites for that size group, yes?

Hi Jen

I have just spent five nights at The Beacon and I will be posting my comments on the hotel in more detail later on so check it out.

To summarise location is wonderful, bearing in mind that it is on Broadway, it can be noisy. NY is 24hrs, hence the workmen empty the bins at 3am! We stayed in a room on the side which was fine. The main attraction is that you have a small kitchen, with fridge, microwave, cooker, sink and a kettle!

Our party was myself, wife and teenage daughter we had a room with two double beds, however there are one and two bedroom suites available.

We enjoyed our stay and would go back, it depends on what your priorities are.

Hope it helps.

PS We are from Exeter!

I live a couple of blocks from the Newton and I like where I live. That said, for a visitor, I would choose the Beacon. If the cost is an issue, the Newton is cheaper and is an acceptable choice.

Thanks everyone for your advice.Sounds like the Beacon then.If any one has any suggestions re eating I%26#39;d love to hear. Many thanks for your help.

We had a wonderful meal at The Ocean Grill on Columbus Avenue it is about 10 minutes stroll from the hotel.

Mainly seafood, good service you can get dressed up if you want. Main course average $20/25. Cheapest wine $34 per bottle.

Put in the topic box ';Upper West Side Restaurants'; and you will see the results that I got when I asked the question. There were several suggestions covering every price and taste.

There are numerous restaurants within walking distance.

Sorry I should have suggested looking in the forum box!
