what is the place that should not be missed on first time to see new york,
1st visit
Andy, I would say that that is one of those impossible questions to answer - there is just so much to see from a cultural, historical, architectural or just plain tourist point of view that it%26#39;s a bit like asking a father ';who%26#39;s your favourite child?';. My advice would be to get a good guidebook or at least visit the NYC Insider%26#39;s Attractions page: theinsider.com/nyc/鈥ttractions.htm so that you can compile a list of the things that sound of interest to you.
If you think that all of this sounds like a copout, my trip report did say that the highlight of our trip, for me, was walking the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset so, if I%26#39;m only allowed one choice, then that would have to be it.
1st visit
The edge of the subway platform.

Nic is right ...QB lol..... The first time i visited NY i went straight to Times Square.... After seeing so many movies featuring this area it was a must and put me in that NY mood.

I went to NY for the first time last year and loved it, things that i saw included Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Ground Zero, Empire State, Woodbury Common, i went to see a basketball game at Madison Sq Garden and also took the red bus tour which i thought was very good! It stops at all the main points. Also went to Brooklyn which was very good.
My biggest find though was Juniors!! You have to have a cheesecake from there. There is a big one in Brooklyn but also a smaller one in Grand Central Station!
My first time and must sees were: Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Steam coming out of manholes, Central Park (ice skating), Macy%26#39;s, China Town, Little italy and Greenwich.
The second time was mainly a shopping trip with my girlfriends but we took in a Broadway show, China Town (again) and Empire State Building (during the day this time)
This time my must sees are: Central Park but more of it this time as we only ventured into a tiny bit at the bottom, Greewich, Soho and Tribeca in more detail, Brooklyn and the Bridge, Harlem, Queens and possibly the Bronx just to see different areas and experience different cultures. We will probably go to MOMA and the National Museum of Photography (as my husband 2b is a photographer) and I will of course also be fitting in plenty of shopping time :)
I think you should really consider doing the Empire State Building on your first evening. Time it so that you see NY both while it is light and also just as all the lights are coming on..... it is a breathtaking way to see New York for the first time. Then I would agree with everyone else, just make sure you have a good guide book and enjoy......
