Niagara Falls - 2 days

Hi All,

Could you tell me whether there is enough to do around Niagara Falls (both the US and Canadian sides) to keep 4 of occupied for 2 days. We are thinking of staying overnight at the Sheraton Fallsview. Is it worth it? After seeing the falls, maid of the mist and the tunnels what else is there to do? Is there a better hotel we should look at for views? Where do we eat?

Thanks, Shaun

Niagara Falls - 2 days

Shaun,

Depending on when you come and what you are interested in there is Minor league Baseball, Major League Football, and Hockey, there are Museums, Shopping Malls, Golf courses, Ski resorts, and public cross country ski trails, there are beaches, hiking trails, speed boat races and full blown regattas. There are Forts that date back to the American Revolution-(I am not sure who we were fighting :) ) with great tours. There is some great nightlife, wonderful Theaters, world class architecture and historic parks and monuments. There are two great lakes, a beautiful river, a spectacular gorge with class 5 rapids. There are world class winerys with tours, quaint small towns and a medium size city. These things are all within a 45 minute ride of Niagara Falls, over roads with very little traffic and lots of places to stop along the way.

I think there is plenty to do-tell us what you are interested in, and we will let you know where to find it.

Have Fun, relax and enjoy yourself.

Niagara Falls - 2 days

Hi Buffalogirl,

We are looking to come up in mid January, flying up from New York City in the morning and debating whether to stay overnight or not. We will be travelling by bus and cabs whilst in Buffalo so was wondering what is in relatively close walking distance in the area around the falls. Do we just come up for the day and fly back that evening or stay overnight. We looked at the Sheraton Fallsview on the Canadian side as the views looked impressive but do they all have these views and if so is the Sheraton the best? We are coming up with two girls aged 15 and 13 so have to base some of the things we do on what they would like. Any ideas?

Thanks, Shaun

nyc will be beautiful in january with all the christmas decoration still up, best time to visit the city. buffalo/niagara is a lot colder because of the proximity to the great lakes and artic fronts. i have really bad news though, everything is going to be frozen so maid of the mist and all the other attractions will be closed. the best thing to do in winter while visiting the falls would be things like taking pictures of the falls/taking in the scenery and gambling at the 3 casinos (but you have daughters so i guess thats out) to be honest, get an early flight to BUF and then a flight back the next day.

if i were you i would

1 rent a car as soon as i land

2. drive to niagara (25 minute drive). it really doesnt matter if you cross the border into canada though, all the attractions you would normally do in the peak summer season are either closed or just not the same.

3. after a half day or so at the falls you could bring the family to buffalo which will have more things to do (as listed in buffalogirl%26#39;s post) the girls might like the walden galleria mall (waldengalleria.com).

4. stay in cheektowaga (JUST NOT ON GENESEE STREET, CONSTRUCTION GOING ON AND HOTELS ARE OLDER) and then the next morning youll have a 2 minute drive to the airport.

like i said, thats what i would do im sure some ppl would disagree but its seriously super cold here and your limited to what you can do. good luck, write back.

Dear Englishman:

First the good news:

I am one of the PPL who disagree with Danny. Do stay in the Falls overnight, and Do stay at the Sheraton, you will probably get a fantastic rate because tourist season will be wayyyyy over. It is true that the maid of the mist will not be running but the journey behind the Falls (cdn side) and the Cave of the winds (US) will be open and you will be treated to brilliant scenery that you will never forget. The teens will be thrilled to eat at Planet Hollywood or Hard Rock and they will enjoy the honky tonk around Clifton Hill. You may also want to take in the butterfly museum(CDN) or the Power Vista (US) both will be open and neither will be crowded.

If you do decide to rent a car, take the trip downriver to Niagara on the Lake it is such a quaint town and a few of the winerys that make ice wine may be open for tours. Even though the kids cannot drink the wine they may still enjoy the tours. Also January is the month of Winter Fests that have all the trappings; sledding, skating, curling, and hockey. Probably within a 20 minute ride of the Falls.

The Bad News:

The weather is going to be a crapshoot. Our weather is very dependent on the Lakes and it is difficult to predict. It will most certainly be cold and if there is a snow storm you could be stuck here for a while.

But if you risk it, bundle up and come ahead, your won%26#39;t be disappointed.
