Where are some good bars in the midtown area to see some live bands?
I%26#39;ve seen there is a CMJ festival going on during this time. I don%26#39;t know if it will help or hinder us in finding a spot to watch a live band in a club?
I%26#39;ve put bbkings on our list of stuff that is close to go see, but alot of the other places on our list are loaded with CMJ stuff and I don%26#39;t know if we%26#39;ll get in to see anything (ie cbgb%26#39;s etc)
Suggestions?
Live Bands Sept 14-16
Here%26#39;s a good post about places to see live bands (rock, alternative, etc.):

Not sure about too many midtown venues for bands. The only things that come to mind are Swing 46 - they have swing and big bands there.

and Birdland.

When you%26#39;re here, pick up a copy of Time Out magazine and the freebie paper, The L Magazine. (Both mags are better in person than on line.)
They list events by type of music and neighborhood.

All recommendations are my own opinion, of course, and there are always gigs in NYC to suit any taste!
As far as CMJ shows, the way it works is that the club has to let in a certain number of people with CMJ badges, but they are also allowed to reserve some tickets at the door for paying customers. But if there is a certain CMJ show you really want to see, it does behoove you to get there early! ;-)
Good bars in Midtown...that%26#39;s rich!!!
