Hi--I%26#39;m taking the advice of the great people I%26#39;ve ';talked'; to here and I%26#39;m staying near Times Square when coming in December. I%26#39;ve been looking at B%26amp;Bs as an alternative to hotels. They are, in general, a lot less expensive ($200+ as opposed to $350+ for the hotels). I%26#39;ve read on Tripadvisor that 1871 House is a good option in a good location. But I also found a place online called Ivy Terrace that *seems* to be good, too. But Ivy Terrace isn%26#39;t on Tripadvisor so I%26#39;m concerned about even looking further into it. Any opinions? Is there anything I should know about B%26amp;Bs or any that I should look in to? Thanks! I did notice that many of the B%26amp;Bs don%26#39;t serve breakfast, so I do know that already. :)
B%26amp;Bs in New York City?
here%26#39;s a review I found....

and another...
My partner and I had the pleasure of inhabiting the Rose Room for two weeks this month. We felt at home immediately upon entering the unit and fell in love with it during our stay. Our time was especially memorable with friends staying next door in the Ivy Suite. We hosted a very memorable birthday celebration on their terrace overlooking E. 58th Street and enjoyed the solitude of the Rose Room%26#39;s more private outdoor space. Vinessa and her assistant were instantly likeable people. Both very personable, fun and helpful. Every review read prior to our stay was ';right on'; and absolutely accurate. We travel to NYC at least once a year and after experiencing the property first hand, we%26#39;ll stay nowhere else. Enjoy!!

B%26amp;Bs in New York City?
Thanks so much. You are a much better investigative reporter than I am. ;)
The Ivy Terrace is no where NEAR Times Square reegieluigi!! It%26#39;s on the east side on 58th st and Times Square is the west side at 45 st. The Ivy Terrace neighborhood is nice and you are right near Bloomingdales, but if you want to be staying in Times Square, this is not the place for you!! The 1871 House is in the same general neighborhood as Ivy Terrace.
I don%26#39;t really know of any b and bs in the TS area. If you%26#39;re looking for something cheaper, you might try the Travel Inn. It%26#39;s a bit west of TS but closer than these other options.
Thanks, nywhiz. It%26#39;s always hard to tell what%26#39;s close and what%26#39;s not, especially since I%26#39;m not familiar with NYC. I was relying on the web sites of the B%26amp;Bs for that info. If we stay in the area where Ivy Terrace or 1871 House are, is it easy to take the subway around the city? We%26#39;re going to Madison Square Garden one night for a concert, will probably go see Blue Man Group (if there are tickets) another night. And will want to see the other NYC sights and skate in Central Park or Rockefeller Center. What do you think? Should we just look closer to Times Square? Thanks!
The neighborhood of the 2 b and bs is very nice (I used to live near there ;) ) but for the kind of activities you describe, I think you%26#39;d prefer being on the westside. Try the Radio City Apartments too which is right near Rockefeller Center and an easy walk to TS.

Depending on how long you%26#39;re going for, you might even consider a regular apartment rather than a hotel. If that appeals to you, contact
citylightsnewyork.com
and see what they have available and at what price.
I should add, the b and b neighborhood is serviced by the 4,5, 6 trains. Here%26#39;s the subway map
http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/maps/submap.htm
What%26#39;s not far at all from that location is Central Park. If you like the look of the place and the price and accomodation is right, it%26#39;s not a bad option. If Radio City apts. is available I think the area would be better for you though.
Good deal. I looked at the Radio City apts but they%26#39;re booked, unfortunately. I really appreciate all of your help.
December is the most expensive time to visit New York. Hotel rooms that typically go for $150-$175 in off season can fetch $500 a night.
Personally, I%26#39;d stay on the upper west side. (I know I sound like a broken record, but it%26#39;s such an ideal location I can%26#39;t help myself!) Jack and Judy%26#39;s B%26amp;B is quite popular -- www.jacksbandb.com -- and the location is ideal. Very convenient for public transportation, you can zip to Times Square in 10 minutes. But this neighborhood is so much nicer, this is the ';real'; New York, not the tourist mecca that is Times Square. Wonderful shops and restaurants on every street, and right near Central Park and the Museum of Natural History. It%26#39;s so pretty in December, too, with Christmas tree vendors dotting the avenues, holiday lights, etc.
Other UWS hotels are the Lucerne, Excelsior, Beacon, Milburn, Belleclaire, On the Ave.
I can%26#39;t believe you haven%26#39;t looked into the Greenwich Village Habitue. Great website. Google it and check it out. Also check out the reviews on TA.
