40th birthday

Andy,

Do you have a budget for the hotel?

I had booked the Sailsbury but then cancelled when I booked Hotel QT for 拢150 less.

I%26#39;ve been to NYC twice before and I love sitting in Central Park people watching.

I think you should have a look at some of the trip reports on here and also some of the suggested itineries that people jage planned and work through them...

I%26#39;ll be in NYC at the same time.

40th birthday

what is ';going on'; is the very favorable exchange rates for the Euro versus the US dollar hence the influx of tourists resulting in very high hotel occupancy and high room rates

For ideas of what to do you can type the word itinerary in search box.

You can also check out www.timout.com websites for nightlife attraction and www.broadwaybox.com if your interested in seeing a show

Have fun

sorry the adress for first site is www.timeout.com

quikbook.com shows availability at the Salisbury Hotel for a 1 bedroom suite for $267/night. It%26#39;s a very good location and a large room with kitchenette. Book it!!

For a show, go to broadwaybox.com and get a discount code for 1 that interests you. Unfortunately I see many of the codes expire on Oct. 6 but some don%26#39;t and there may be new codes starting on the 7th. Mama Mia is popular with the UK ladies, esp. if she likes ABBA music. What sort of shows has she like in the past?

For shopping, both Macy%26#39;s and Bloomingdales offer foreigners an 11% discount if you register at their service desk.

For a special meal take her either to the Boat House in Central Park or to really splurge, the River Cafe.

rivercafe.com

Ditto about the River Cafe. We just went there in August for my 40th birthday on my b-day and I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;ll ever forget it. It made my day so special.

Many times hotels and the web sites like QuikBook.com or hotelclub.net have %26#39;last minute bookings'; at reduced rates. Since you will be there for 5 nights I wouldn%26#39;t suggest waiting for a bargain since you can%26#39;t be guarenteed 5 consecutive nights. But sometimes it DOES happen.

Hotel rates are skyrocketing. I searched for days and days before I found a bargain at The Excelsior. Booked thru%26#39; Quikbook and scored a 5 night stay for $189.00 USD. per night. from Oct. 15th to 20th. The rates are almost double now!

As for the theatre... check out the TKTS booth (preferably the Southport ... shorter lines!...) and get your tickets the day of the show for reduced prices.

With TKTS the prices are mostly 50% off; cash or travelers checks only

with using the discount codes from broadwaybox.com and buying tickets online, you%26#39;re saving about 35-40% but you sit in the comfort of your home and generally get better seat locations

oops that should say ';sit in the comfort of your home and BUY your tickets...';

When you get here, buy a copy of Time Out New York. It is much better than their website.

Also, check out The L Magazine
