- a gospel show featuring a choir at a venue/theatre like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, etc.

- a tour of Harlem

- going to a church on Sunday.

any advice on which of these is better? I know BB Kings is supposed to be good but the food just average - any with good gospel and good food?

Reviews on tthis forum vary, but I haven%26#39;t seen a total pan of any one of them.

';Susanne - we did enjoy the brunch. We booked our tickets in advance through Ticketmaster. The starting time was given as %26#39;seating from 12-30, showtime 1-30 pm%26#39;. We got there just after 12-30 and there was a big queue - the doors were not yet open. We did not wait too long before we were inside though.

The bit that was disorganised was the food.... Everyone was given a ticket, either red or yellow. You could only get up for your food when your colour was called. The compere said %26#39;don%26#39;t worry, the queue moves really fast%26#39;. We were %26#39;red%26#39; and the last called (didn%26#39;t mind that, someone has to be). We joined the queue and waited....and waited....and waited. The queue did not even move for about 10 minutes. People were coming back from the buffet tables and couldn%26#39;t get to their seats because the queue was in the way! We must have waited at least 30 minutes before we got to the buffet tables. The choir came on stage before we%26#39;d even got to the food. Then, when we got our food, there were no forks in the cutlery tray and we must have waited another five minutes for some to appear, even though loads of people were asking for them.

The food was OK, typical mass buffet fare.

Another thing was that water and orange juice were provided on the table, with hot drinks available at a separate table. If you wanted anything else to drink, you had to wait until a server came to your table to get them. The show was at least half way through before our server reached us.

We noticed that there were some tables with %26#39;reserved%26#39; plaques on them. Most of the seating was at long tables, but there were some semi-circular booths that were really nice and these all seemed to be reserved. We hadn%26#39;t realised you could reserve particular seats in advance. These tables also seemed to get served with other drinks first, so if you want to go it might be worth thinking about %26#39;phoning to reserve a booth.

The actual show was finished by about 2-40 pm, so it was a bit shorter than we%26#39;d thought it would be, but that was fine, it meant we weren%26#39;t rushing back to the hotel for our transport back to Newark. Our flight home was at 8-35 pm and Super Shuttle had said they%26#39;d pick us up at 4-35 pm (but of course they didn%26#39;t).

When we got a taxi at 5-40 pm, it took us an hour to get to Newark.

You would probably have time to go to the brunch, if you left straight afterwards and had a decent transport firm to take you to the airport (NOT SUPER SHUTTLE!)

The above report may sound like we didn%26#39;t enjoy it much, but that%26#39;s not true.... I%26#39;m glad we did it, though I wouldn%26#39;t go out of my way to do it again.

Continental Airlines: Manchester - Newark

Just read a post re Continental flight from Edinburgh to Newark which got pretty poor reviews regarding lack of in flight entertainment and the size of the aircraft. Is this the same from Manchester to Newark?

I%26#39;ve flown with Continental to Newark from Manchester and Glasgow. both times we had seat-back TV%26#39;s and the entertainment was OK - a few different films / TV shows etc. As cathy said, I think the Edinburgh flight is a smaller plane. Manchester and glasgow are both bigger.

They have two flights one is the 757 and one is the 767 - I went on the 767 last Nov at it was fine - good leg room which is more important to me than entertainment - I%26#39;m quite happy read a book or magazine.

Thanks for that, that web site is good. I have just checked and we are on the 757 which is smaller and seats are 3 and 3. I hate flying, just thought going to New York we would be on a bigger plane with more leg room etc, to take my mind of the flight. Never mind!

The lovely Suns disapearing could have something to do with Hurricane Ophelia - she won%26#39;t be a hurricane by the time she moves north bound but she will effect the weather, dumping some rain- have a look at this website - shows she will have gone past NY on Saturday. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Hello, i have read on a previous post that you have to pay a hotel tax on arrival, would this not already be included in the price we have paid our travel agent for our hotel for the week?

Hi smf! In my experience the hotel taxes have always been added in with the room tariff - there%26#39;s never been any question of paying them separately. I%26#39;ve always just paid the total sum when I%26#39;ve checked out at the end of my stay - never on arrival. I%26#39;m pretty sure the amount you%26#39;ve paid your travel agent would be all inclusive, but why don%26#39;t you just check with them? I%26#39;m sure they%26#39;d know the details.

H2B and I are going to go on an open top bus tour of NYC (once we%26#39;ve checked into our hotel and offloaded our bags!) so we can take in all the sights, and then head back to our hotel room with a take out Chinese and to watch some NY TV! This may sound a bit strange but we want to have a relatively easy first night so we can get a good nights sleep and be refreshed for the next day. I know we are going to be exhausted from being up at 2am and travelling all day!

Whatever you decide, FYI most theatres are dark (closed) on Mondays, so Times Square/theatre district will not be the most hopping place. Any other night, it is busier.

Without knowing either what you 2 enjoy or what your idea of quintessential NYC is, it%26#39;s hard to recommend something. A bus tour sounds like a nice idea (Grayline has a city lights tour that goes at around 7pm and takes you around to see the lights. Info here

Honeymoon in NYC

Hi all

My finance and myself are getting married in March in the UK for our honeymoon we are having 3 nts in NYC before we pick up a caribbean cruise. Never been to NYC before so we want to make the most of our few days, would appreicate any advise and tips on best hotels and attractions and places to visit? Also to eat?

What will the weather be like in April, will I need to pack a jumper or maybe it will be a excuse to shop!!

If I was to buy a guide book which one would be the best buy?

You will need to give people more information - what is your price range for a hotel? The Sofitel is the top ranking hotel on trip advisor (if you click on New York City Hotels in blue on the left of your screen that lists them all with ratings. The Salisbury gets good reviews, Radio City Apartments and I%26#39;ve stayed in the Newton and the Cosmopolitan which are two budget hotels. Go onto expedia do a search for hotels in NY and then compare ones you fancy and are affordable to the reviews on here.

Eating wise there is a thread at the top of the forum page which lists loads of eating establishments have a look their - this also depends on what you class as good food - price, flavours etc.

Visiting wise get a guide book - I think Maidstone Nic recommends DK Eyewitness Guides, I%26#39;ve used Timeout guides and found them find also - have a look in your local bookshop and see which ones you prefer.

Sites - again depends on what you like - for me on my first visit I wanted to see the Statue of Liberty, Empire State, Central Park, 5th Avenue, Macy%26#39;s, Bloomingdales, Times Square, Soho, Chinatown and Little Italy. Once you have you%26#39;re guide book make a list of everything you fancy doing and then block them into things that are near each other - making a loose itinery.

I think (and I stand to be corrected by a NYer here) the weather in April is not dis-similar to the weather here - so you may need a jumper or a slightly thicker coat than a summer one if that makes sense.

Hi, I have the DK New York Guide, the Lonely Planet and a really good small silver map book, and nearly forgot one an AA spiral read book - quite small but quite useful, which has helped with the planning. Don%26#39;t go till 1st October. V Excited.
