Hi Shelly1 I%26#39;m not sure where I read it but I am sure I read that the rooftop terrace is only open during the summer. I think they figure once it gets cold nobody would want to be outdoors which seems a pity as it would be lovely to rug up and go and look at the lights by night with a nice hot toddy in your hand to warm you up!

oh thanks, not to worry. i could always ask if i could go up there anyway to have a look if thay let me, i can only try!!!

thanks again x

Shelly, cancel Tavern on the Green. Everyone seems to agree the food isn%26#39;t very good and it%26#39;s overpriced for what it is. If you want to go there for the setting, do but have lunch or brunch. Another option is the Boat House in Central Park. Food better than TOTG and it%26#39;s less expensive.

For your last night, if you want something really special go to the River Cafe. It%26#39;s just across the east river in Brooklyn and has skyline views of Manhattan.

If that%26#39;s too pricey, another option is the Water%26#39;s Edge. It%26#39;s also across the river but further north in Queens. They also have a complimentary ferry from Manhattan that will take you there.

menupages.com is a great website to search for restaurants by area and by cuisine type. Your hotel is in the west 30s so look in west 30s and also east 30s aren%26#39;t too far.l

Other posters have mentioned a place called Speedy%26#39;s that%26#39;s a deli that%26#39;s good for breakfast, lunch or inexpensive dinner.

WOW!!!

thanks for all the info, i will definately check out those sites you mentioned, the one over looking the manhattan skyline sounds gorgeous!!

we are only there for 3 nights and then were off to disney florida for 11 nights so im trying to make the most of my time there,

we have booked a river cruise and helicopter ride over the city so any tips of where to go/what to see would be great, wanna make the most of it.

cheers again!!! x

Hi shelley

I have stayed at the metro in late Sept and the roof terrace was open then, but the weather was really nice at that time.

SHELLY1 ,although i haven%26#39;t stayed at the metro ,i did stay directly opposite at the comfort inn and i must admit that by the look of the metro, i would rather have stayed there (maybe next time)!! it looks a very decent place and in a very central position to all the attractions ,ESB 2 mins round the corner , Macys the same, Times Square 10-15 min walk , subway about 100 yards to your right as you come out the hotel entrance ! a very handy shop for essentials - duane reades 2 mins away also!! mind you there are hundreds of duane reades all over NYC, O%26#39;reillys Irish pub/restaurant on same street as you about 50 yards along towards 5 th avenue !! also brendans bar opposite your hotel attached to the comfort inn where we were staying was good for a wee tipple!! have a great time when you go !

thanks again everybody,

i have never ben so excited about a holiday in my life!!!

thanks for all the tips etc,

great help x

I think a cruise is a great idea and while I%26#39;ve never done a helicopter tour, many here say it was the highlight of their trip. If you%26#39;re going to be here for only 3 days I agree you should make the most of them. It sounds like you%26#39;re already on your way to doing that. ;)

I would try to plan the River Cafe for either lunch or dinner (lunch is less expensive). Consider walking the Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn back to Manhattan. YOu could do that after a meal at the River Cafe. Have fun!!

For one of the least-known, most-stunning views of the skyline try the Cantor Rooftop Garden at the Met on a Friday night at sundown.

Also, I would think you would want to check out the Boathouse al freso place in central park for lunch.
