Breakfast near the Millenium Hilton, lower Manhattan

Can anyone recommend a good place to grab breakfast in lower Manhattan, preferable within walking distance to the Millenium? For that matter, how about a lunch spot also? Last time I was in New York, we made the mistake of thinking that local spots were expensive and we went into an Applebees and the prices were outrageous. I would rather go somewhere local any day of the week.

The restaurant in the Millenium is supposed to be pretty good, though I have never been. You are close to City Hall, a nice American restaurant that serves breakfast. For a less formal meal, try Moran%26#39;s ( 103 Washington St) which is an Irish pub or the Odeon which is an informal french bistro (see www.menupages.com for exact location and menu for all these). You are not far from Chinatown either, so that is another option for lunch.

I work nearby, and we (and our out of town guests) stayed there for our wedding.

The closest diner is Gee Whiz, on the corner of Greenwich Street and Murray Street. It%26#39;s a classic New York diner with a giant, extensive menu.

City Hall restaurant is a more upscale, hence pricier.

There are a few Dunkin%26#39; Donuts around, but no seating inside.

The restaurant inside the Millenium is pretty good for brunch and breakfast.

Lunch around that area is a lot easier.

You could go south and east for the South Street Seaport or the Financial Area, but I%26#39;d go north and west instead. Less expensive, less touristy, less crowded options, and you%26#39;re getting into Tribeca but not really in the super expensive part, which is nice. Plus the streets are still a grid. (The streets are a little harder to navigate in the Wall Street area.)

Go to West Broadway (from Vesey to Duane) for Kitchenette, The Little Place (Mexican), Jamba Juice, Delphi Greek restaurant, Mary Ann%26#39;s Mexican, Odeon, Le Petite Abielle, etc, etc, etc.

There%26#39;s Amish Market - which is neither Amish nor a regular market - on Park Place and West Broadway. It%26#39;s a little pricey for a salad bar, but the best salad bar you%26#39;ll see around there.

Mocca on Church and Reade is good for sandwiches and espresso. Church Street has a lot of take out options.

On Murray, from Broadway to Greenwich, there%26#39;s Spice Grill, 2 Rivers, Biddy Early%26#39;s, 17, etc., etc.

I recommend Spaghetti Western on Reade bwn Church and Bway.

Personally, I like getting cheap lunches at the handful of Indian take out places. The spices really disinfect everything!

There are many fancier-schmancier places for dinner, too, mostly on Reade Street and upper Greenwich Street (north of Reade.)

p.s. Broadway and West Broadway are two different streets.
