International Shoppers Savings Card

What is this, where do you get it and what are the savings and where can you use it? Thanks

International Shoppers Savings Card

Martin, it%26#39;s a Macy%26#39;s card which entitles you to 11% discount of a lot (not all) of their wares. You get it from their Customer Services dept which is on the mezzanine floor (don%26#39;t forget to take your passport with you).

Other department stores (Bloomingdales) have similar schemes.

International Shoppers Savings Card

Thanks Nic. Is Macys very like Bloomingdales - is one better than the other?

Macy%26#39;s is the largest department store in the world. That said; Bloomingdales%26#39; merchandise is neater (literally) ans the sales staff are a bit more knowledgeable and courteous. Bloomingdale%26#39;s is a bit more upscale. Interestingly, they are both owned by the same company.

Both Macy%26#39;s and Bloomingdale%26#39;s are fun to visit. Both have good sales. But don%26#39;t bet your rent money on the savings card. There are many exclusions. If the card you are talking about costs money, skip it.

Can the card be used on cosmetics ,skincare ?

It doesn%26#39;t cost money but it does, as I hinted before, have exclusions. It doesn%26#39;t include (and I quote from the actual card) ';cosmetics, fragrances, leased departments, services, gift certificates, gift cards, prior purchases, furniture, mattresses.';

Nic,

What%26#39;s left then? Clothes, handbags and shoes?

It hardley sounds worth the effort or is there a point? By the way can%26#39;t you claim any tax you pay back whilst in the States when you depart at the airport? How easy is this?

I suppose it depends what you%26#39;re looking for but I would have thought clothes was what most people want to buy plus gifts or things for the home. Can%26#39;t imagine that too many people will be disappointed that mattresses are excluded! There is no catch but if people want to pay an extra 11%, who am I to stop them?

Whilst you can reclaim GST (Goods and Services Tax) for items bought in Canada, the same does not apply to the USA.

    Driving from Princeton, NJ to Niagarafalls - Which route?

    scenic stops? definately take the 90 through nys. theres tons of things to do along the way. the mohawk valley between albany and utica gives the best views to I-90 drivers. after that its all flat. i highly recommend stopping at letchworth state park between buffalo and rochester. this place is amazing, i dont know how else to describe it. the genesee river gorge, 600 feet cliffs, many hiking trails. ';grand canyon of the east.'; this is the northeast at its best. my favorite is walking accross the railroad tressle 450 feet above the trees.

    ...and then from there its less than 1 hour to buffalo and then 20 minutes to niagara

    You can also stop off at Seneca lake. Watkins glenn gorge is amazing.

    3 nights in NY, stay in NJ??

    This question is coming up almost daily as the prices of NY hotels rise. If you put stay in New Jersey in the text search above you%26#39;ll find lots of other posts discussing pros and cons and listing hotels. The Hyatt in Jersey City and the Sheraton on the Hudson in Weehawken seem to be the best options if you%26#39;re considering this.

    note about the Sheraton and the ferry

    according to the NYWaterway website, the ferry that serves the Sheraton in Weehawken operates only on weekdays

    www.nywaterway.com/lincolnharbor_w38.html

    if you are at the Sheraton on weekends, you%26#39;ll need to use their shuttle which will take you to the Port Imperial location and the ferry from there runs 7 days a week

    I have compiled the information about the various options here ---%26amp;gt;

    Help with our itinerary

    Hi. We will be in New York for 4 days next week for our 5th wedding anniversary. We are staying at the Belvedere Hotel in Midtown and plan to walk everywhere. We figured the best way to see as much as the city as possible would be to pick an area for each day. Day one would be Times Square/Central Park, Day two would be downtown (making our way down through Soho, CHinatown, Nolita, Greenwich and WTC), Day three would be Upper East and Day four would be Upper West. Can someone let us know if this is a realistic itinerary on foot in four days? We have a list of places in each area that we wish to visit (ie. stores, restaurants, sites), but need to know if this is would be a ridiculous feat or the right approach. Thanks so much for your help.

    Yes, sounds good. Bus and subway would be the best way to get to those neighborhoods.

    New York Hotels

    Where is the best place to stay in NY and what are the best hotels there. I am visiting for the first time, what are the best sightseeing things to do?

    what do you like? would be a good indicatiuon of ideas

    New York Hotels

    Most NY hotel rooms are small, but not at Embassy Suites in Financial District. Although it is out of the way, bus and subway are close. You can%26#39;t beat the price included breakfast and happy hour. We don%26#39;t stay anywhere else.

    If you stay in midtown Manhattan, you will be more centrally located---not far from many attractions. Plus, if you want to see a Broadway play, it is very convenient. There are some nice hotels in Times Square. However, Times Square is crowded 24/7. I know many people aren%26#39;t bothered by that. Also, several subway lines go through Times Square so you would be able to easily get around the city.
