I am now just two weeks away from visiting NYC - and am extremely excited! I%26#39;m a scrapbooker, therefore, I%26#39;m always thinking ahead to my photos. My question is: are there any times of the day or evening (sunset) that I would be trying to take pictures of the NY skyline from the Brooklyn Bridge that facing the sun would be an issue? Thanks for the help.

Think this website might help you - http://www.sunrisesunset.com/ it was on this forum a little while back - it tells you when the sunrises and sets
Hope you enjoy the view at sunset/sunrise

If you want great skyline pictures of manhattan I have 2 tips for you.
1. Take the subway downtown to the Staten Island Ferry hop on the ferry and ride it to Staten Island and back. $2.00 .You%26#39;ll get great shots of the skyline looking north. A bonus is you%26#39;ll also get to see the statue of liberty.
2. Take a NYwaterway ferry from 38th street to Weehawken or Hoboken,NJ $11 round trip. Once in NJ you will be able to take some great shots of the skyline looking east. When the sun is setting it will cast a beautiful orange glow on the city.
The Brooklyn Bridge is on the east side of Manhattan if you are facing Manhattan . Sunrise will be behind you . Sunset will be in front .
Annmay, the position of the sun at sunset when you%26#39;re standing on the Brooklyn Bridge is perfect for photography! If you look to your left you will see the sun setting almost directly behind the Statue of Liberty but so low in the sky that shooting into it is no problem. Look to your right and you will see the whole of midtown bathed in that fabulous orange glow that only comes at this time of day.
We were so lucky when we were there in February. I%26#39;ve posted some photos here: footcom.co.uk/nyc/鈥ndex.html for you to get an idea.
Enjoyed the photos, Nic. Did you use a filter at alll? The Statue of Liberty really looks well in the sol.
Thanks to all. I%26#39;ll try all suggestions and, Nic I have gone to your web site. Your pictures are great. I%26#39;m very excited about this trip and will post an itinerary soon.
Jaygee, no, didn%26#39;t use a filter. With it being February and the sun so low in the sky, the light was a very gentle orange (probably all the pollution in the air!). Using a digital camera also means you can experiment a bit and see immediately what effect you%26#39;re having.
