We spent 4 great nights in the middle of it all on Bleeker St., just returning yesterday. Here are some of the highlights. . . On the spur of the moment we saw a comedy show at the Comedy Cellar -- my first time at a comedy club, but I loved it. Great comics (all unknown to me), then Chris Rock appeared as the surprise guest -- all for $10! Of course we ate ourselves silly, proving that you don%26#39;t have to spend much money to get fantastic food in New York. Some of our favorites were Pepe Rosso%26#39;s in SoHo, Hummous in the Village, Taj Mahal in Gramercy Park, Sea Thai in the East Village, Grimaldi%26#39;s in Brooklyn. We made a couple of trips to Russ and Daughter%26#39;s for incredible smoked fish, bagels and pickles (and a visit to Yonah Schimmel%26#39;s for knishes!). Joes, the Art of Coffee was worth the visit for great coffee in the West Village. We also had a great time in Chinatown, where we risked a foot and back rub for $40. It was worth at least twice that much, especially after all of the walking we did, and we vow to make that something we do each visit. We also took the 4 to Brooklyn, risked buying scalped tickets, and saw the Saturday Red Sox/Yankees game for less than face value. Afterwards, we had some slices in the neighborhood. Perfect! The weather was gorgeous, and New Yorkers just seem to be getting friendlier and happier each time I go. Why not -- it%26#39;s a fantastic city!!

I couldn%26#39;t agree more with your food choices. Carmine%26#39;s, shmarmines.
Glad to hear the Comedy Cellar is still good. I%26#39;d heard it went downhill and just pressured people to drink more.

Actually, we got the impression that we wouldn%26#39;t have needed to order the two drinks -- there was no pressure at all. The drinks were fairly cheap (4 or 5 bucks), so we spent a total of about $45 for two of us. An absolute bargain just about anywhere, I%26#39;d say!
Where did you stay on Bleeker? Sounds like a great trip.
We stayed at the Signature Suites, at 160 Bleeker. An absolutely fantastic location if you love that part of the City -- we%26#39;ll stay there again!
